Class 10 Computer Science and Entrepreneurship Chapter 1 Test 5 is an exam-oriented practice paper based on the latest PECTAA Punjab New Syllabus 2026–27. This test covers Chapter 1: Operating System – Structure & Services, specifically Topics 1.5 to 1.8. It includes selected exercise MCQs (Questions 5–8), short questions (Questions 6–10), and long questions (Questions 3–5). Prepared as part of the Punjab Board 2027 Model Papers and Chapter-Wise Test Series, this practice test helps Class 10 students assess their understanding of operating system concepts, practise textbook questions, and prepare systematically for their annual board examinations. Students can use this test for classroom assessment, independent revision, and targeted examination practice according to the new syllabus issued by PECTAA Punjab.
We covered following topics in this test.
- Topic No. 1.5 To 1.8,
- Exercise MCQ’s (5 to 8)
- Exercise Short Question (6 to 10)
- Exercise Long Question (3-5)
- 1.Threads are part of:(a) Hardware(b) Process(c) RAM(d) Disk
- 2.Windows uses nearlysystems calls:(a) 200(b) 2000(c) 100(d) 1000
- 3.Which of the following is a file system?(a) Windows(b) Linux(c) MS Words(d) NTFS
- 4.A key feature of Embedded OS is:(a) High power cosumption(b) Complex interface(c) Large storage(d) Low memory usage
- 5.A graphical shell allows the user to:(a) Type commands only(b) Click icons and use menus(c) Interact only via code(d) Access only the BIOS
- 6.Which system call is used to create a new process?(a) Open(b) read(c) Write(d) fork
- (i)Give two benefits of Multithreading.Ans: (1) The program stays responsive, because other threads keep working while one waits. (2) Threads share the process’s memory and resources, so they are faster and lighter than separate processes and can use multiple CPU cores.
- (ii)What is a system call?Ans: A system call is the way a program requests a service from the OS kernel, such as opening a file or creating a process.
- (iii)What is the purpose of "fork" system call? Give example.Ans: fork() creates a new process (child) that is a copy of the calling process (parent). Example: a shell calls fork() to start a new program, so the child runs the program while the parent keeps running.
- (iv)What is a folder?Ans: A folder (directory) is a container on a storage device used to organize files and other folders.
- (v)Why a file system is important?Ans: It stores, names, organizes and retrieves data in an orderly way, manages free space, and protects files with permissions.
- (vi)What is Network operating system (NOS)?Ans: A NOS runs on a server and manages users, files, printers and security for computers connected in a network. Examples: Windows Server, Linux.
- (vii)What is Mobile operating system? Write down its key features.Ans: A mobile OS runs smartphones and tablets (e.g. Android, iOS). Key features: touch-screen interface, battery and power saving, app stores, wireless connectivity (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, mobile data) and built-in sensors and camera support.
- (viii)Why is virtual memory slower than RAM?Ans: Virtual memory uses the hard drive or SSD, which is much slower than RAM chips, and data must be swapped between disk and RAM.
- (ix)What is the role of a file system?Ans: It organizes data into files and folders, keeps track of where they are stored, manages storage space and controls who can access them.
- (x)Define multitasking in computer system.Ans: Multitasking is running more than one program at the same time; the CPU switches between them so quickly that they appear to run together.
- Process control: fork() creates a new process; exit() ends it.
- File management: open(), read(), write(), close().
- Device management: read from the keyboard, write to the printer.
- Information maintenance: getpid(), time().
